With so many baits and lures in the market, it can sometimes be confusing as to what you should use. One thing to keep in mind when there is heat, Coyote can be able to smell your perfume from a much longer range since with the warm weather, so a little of scent goes a long way. This also means that more bait meat deteriorates more quickly in the heat. So it is advisable to set traps during cold season or very early in the morning.

Body-gripping/ Conibear Trap
This trap consists of two rectangular frames with a trigger that, when activated, to close slap in the body. This happened when the Coyote swim or walk through it. These such traps are usually put where the animals will run through. This leg-holding trap is mainly used in trapping foxes, coyotes, raccoons, wolves, lynxes and kittens.

Offset
The trap has a steel jaw to trap the leg with a 3/16 “steel gap between jaws. It has a little space that is to give allowance for blood flow of a trapped Coyote. When blood flow is restricted, stuns the trapped limb, increasing the likelihood that the Coyote or any animal will most likely chew its tip and escape.

Padded
The padded conform to an animal’s legs with enough strength to hold a desperate Coyote or wolf. The only difference between a padded trap, and an ordinary steel jaw trap of steel leg is a strip of synthetic steel nylon jaws which is powerful. This is like hitting your hand in a car door with a thin lighted glove to beat. The trape is marketed by the fur industry as a humane trap.

Laminated
This is a laminated trap which has a steel jaws added, in order to make them wider or thicker. Pressure jaw extends over a larger area to increased blood flow. As described above, when the blood flow is limited, the trapped limb is numbed, therefore increasing the likelihood that the animal or Coyote will chew its end and escape.

Snare Trap
The trap is designed with a knot which tightens as the animal try’s to escape, because of the slow strangulation or death stress. The trap is an extremely cruel and indiscriminately used trap primarily for coyotes, foxes and wolves. The trap although simple, can cause an immense suffering to an animal that gets caught by one. A loop of wire is put along a path in which the animal passes normally. The caught animals in the snare trap do make it hard for trapped Coyote or animal to breathe, but does not kill the animal.
Successful Ways to Set Coyote Traps
Consider the direction of the wind
If wind direction is difficult to predict in a good place, set several traps to ensure that the coyote will still be caught with one of your traps regardless of wind direction, or locate traps on the windward side of the coyotes travel corridor, based on prevailing wind direction, so that a coyote will be able to smells the bait or lure that you used.
Do not use too much bait
The key to catching the coyotes is properly set traps. Hence not too much bait as you may think will lead to a successful catch.
Apply Less Weight on the Trap
This helps to make the trap more solid and ensure it catches/trap the coyotes.
